Christmas sales in New Zealand usually begin in early December, although some retailers start earlier after Black Friday. Many sales continue until Christmas Eve, with stronger urgency around delivery cut offs and last minute gifts.

Before Christmas is usually better for gifts, toys, hampers, decorations, and seasonal items you need before 25 December. After Christmas, Boxing Day sales may offer stronger clearance discounts, but the item you want may no longer be available.

Check delivery cut off dates, click and collect options, return windows, gift receipt options, stock availability, and whether the retailer delivers to your area before Christmas. A good discount is not useful if the gift arrives too late.
